He Makes Me Brave

Proverbs 3:24-26 / New King James Version:  "When you lie down, you will not be afraid; Yes, you will lie down and your sleep will be sweet.  Do not be afraid of sudden terror, Nor of trouble from the wicked when it comes; For the Lord will be your confidence, And will keep your foot from being caught"

A pilot watches the flashing red light.  A mother searches frantically for her child between the aisles.  A driver glances in the rearview mirror at an oncoming truck.  Certain fears have gripping embrace, paralyzing to the body.  The heart pounds, pupils dilate, palms sweat.

Other fears overwhelm the mind, causing anxious thoughts and sleepless nights.  How will the bills get paid this month?  Will  the doctor have bad news?  Family members need help, friends are overwhelmed with suffering, and we can't make it all okay.

When fearful thoughts flood our minds, God's words of wisdom and comfort can get washed away.  If we can learn to fully trust him, he will calm our fears and still our quickened hearts.  We can be fearless because our confidence is in God and his promises.

  1. What fears are holding you captive today? Let the flood of terror subside and be assured that God is your refuge. He lovingly attends to your every need. Do not be afraid!
